Searching for Silverton, Colorado real estate and homes for sale? Silverton is located between Durango and Ouray and boasts some of the most breathtaking landscapes in Colorado. Sitting at 9,318 feet in San Juan County, it is one of the highest towns in the United States. The statutory town is the only incorporated municipality in the county with fewer than 700 residents. Single-family homes for sale in Silverton start under $250,000, but there are several upscale properties around $500,000 and a few luxury properties over $1 million.

Although somewhat secluded and empty during the week, Silverton comes to life on weekends. The Animas River runs on the south side of town, and there are river properties and lots available for purchase. Most of the homes for sale in Silverton are in the town core, between 7th Street and 18th Street. The downtown business pedestrian district is around 11th and 12th Streets.

The town has a collection of well-kept older homes with two, three or four bedrooms. There are a few larger residences available as well. Many properties have around 2,000 square feet of living space, but there are smaller homes with approximately 1,000 square feet. Larger, newer luxury homes can have up to 3,000 square feet of living space.

U.S. Highway 550, or the Million Dollar Highway, runs south of town. This road is known for its spectacular views, and the area has several luxury homes and prime building lots. A 14-acre lot at Indian Acres on County Road 6 just outside town is listed for $3 million. It's the ideal spot for a picturesque mountain ranch or a sizeable dream home. Smaller, more affordable parcels with about 8,000 square feet of space are available on the corner of 7th Street and Snowden Street for around $100,000. These lots are perfect for a future home or investment property.

South of town on the Million Dollar Highway, you can purchase a large 63-acre parcel with 1,000 feet of Belcher Creek on the property for under $1.5 million. This stunning property features old-growth pine and aspen trees. There is a skinning track nearby for backcountry skiing. You can ski from Sultan Mountain peak to Northstar Couloir during prime conditions. National Forest and BLM land surround it, yet only a few minutes' drive from downtown Silverton.

Northeast of town, you can purchase a mountain recreation property near the ghost town of Eureka for about $20,000. This location has enough parking for a small vehicle and camper. There is an ice-climbing route directly above the property.

Colorado has 58 "Fourteeners" mountains that are above 14,000 feet. Silverton is less than 15 miles from seven of them. Most of the peaks surrounding Silverton are "Thirteeners."
The town has a lively weekend vibe. During the summers, there are staged gunfights on Blair Street. The 4x4 Alpine look is excellent for hiking. The trail connects Ouray and Lake City. There is also excellent camping and fishing in the area.
